Tomascz maintains 100 per cent winning status in table tennis league

Five unbeaten records were shattered on another fast and furious night of Spalding and District Table Tennis League action.

Week eight of the Vital Recruitment-sponsored competition was another night of league action at Spalding’s Castle Sports Complex.
Some seven matches were played, but only five were completed – with two teams a player short.

Bladerunners held on to top spot in Division One on count back, although they do have points in the bag from their unfinished match which have not yet been added.
Tomascz Dobrzyn won both of his ties against Outsiders, keeping his 100 per cent, but given Radek Blaziek his first loss.

South Holland, meanwhile, moved closer after a strange match with JAG.
Second-placed Holland took the match 5-0 for the loss of just one end in the doubles.
The other games were won in regulation, with a mixture of tight scores and comfortable wins.

Also in the top flight, Haz Beans and Defenders are level in their match with just two games played after the Beans were down a player.
All this played into the hands of One from the Past, who jumped up three places after a 4-1 win over JDM.
Sasha Martin won two and Phil Coote one, while Jon Chesworth scored for the losers.

Down in Division Two, Castle Sports just managed to hang on to their unbeaten run when Practice makes Perfect threw away two points to concede the doubles and their own undefeated crown.
The singles were shared, with Garry Wilkinson taking two for the Practicers.
Guntars Briedes took one, but his winning streak came to an end, and Jonathan Black their other.

They remain top as Hope for the Best also lost their 100 per cent run after ‘only’ winning 4-1 against A Win for a Curry.
Richard Matthews held on to his run, though it was very close, but his team-mate was beaten by Phil Knowles for Curry’s point.

Meanwhile, Mine’s a Pint won 5-0 against Saunter Together to open a gap between themselves and the lower half of the table.
Andrew Hay and Jeremy Hitcham won their points for the loss of just one end.
