Tis the season… for fuel theft

Lincolnshire Police have warned that diesel and oil tanks need to be watched after two thefts began the seasonal crime.

Police said a large quantity of fuel was stolen from a tank overnight at Mallard Road, Low Fulney on Thursday, November 9. (Witnesses contact Lincs Police on 101, quoting inc. 86 of 10/11/17.)

The same night, police report fuel was stolen from a lorry yard at Mill Green Road, Pinchbeck (inc. 172 of 10/11/17).

Inspector Gareth Boxall gave this warning: “Diesel and heating oil tanks are often targeted by thieves at this time of year and can often be neglected as far as security goes. Make sure they are well lit and secured.

“More advice can be found on our website, www.lincs.police.uk”

Advice on the site includes placing the tank out of sight of the main road but in view of the house – hidden tanks mean a thief is hidden too.

Other suggestions include CCTV, security lighting, a high-quality padlock and investing in a tank alarm.
