If you felt something was missing from Spalding’s calendar this year, never fear.
Despite the absence of the annual flower parade in 2014, there is something hoping to take its place in the hearts and minds of locals and visitors in the shape of Spalding People’s Parade.
The event is on Sunday and will feature a parade of decorated trolley carts and other attractions.
It has been organised by a team of just eight volunteers and is being billed as a family fun with something for everyone.
The Sir John Gleed School field will be the focal point of the day, which runs from 11am to 5pm, with live music, games, bouncy castle and stalls.
There will also be Kids Karts and sumo suits, a face painter and food vendors.
Admission is free for everyone.
The trolley parade will include the Breaston Highlanders, Endana School of Dance, the Polish Saturday School children, church groups and Diamondz Dance Group.
Handmade trolley carts will be entered into the parade by groups and businesses including Baytree Nurseries Garden Centre, the ATC, Black Pearl Theatre, Deeping St Nicholas School, Spalding Primary School, the Priory School, Sir John Gleed School, Definitions Health and Fitness Gym, Lives and Accountancy Plus.
Kate Alexander, of the People’s Parade committee, said: “Spalding was left with a dent in its calendar after the flower parade was stopped and it has opened up a great opportunity for the community to come together to create something new.
“We hope that many families can come down and enjoy the entertainment at the Gleed site or be on the parade route celebrating with our participants.”
