Tight finish to Tydd St Giles am-am

Sixteen clubs were represented at Tydd St Giles Golf Club for a seniors four-man team am-am open, featuring 108 players.

The winning team of Steve Dewey, Tim Martin, Mark Amor and Wayne Davies scored 83 points, finishing one ahead of Sean Stewart, Steve Tite, Gary Fletcher and Mick Vassall.

Third on countback were Mark Platts, Steve Nichols, Ian Boosey and Simon Brown, who tied on 80 points with Alan Horton, David Warnes, Gary Edwards and Kevin Howling.

Nearest the pins prizes went to Michael Flint (Tydd St Giles) fourth hole, Paul Skinner (Gedney Hill) eighth hole, Rob Hills (Searles) 11th hole and Maurice Anderson (Thetford) 16th hole.

A raffle and halfway house donations saw more than £1,200 raised for Kimberley Care Home.

A competitive, sociable and fun day of golf was organised by Mick Vassall, who thanked all the event sponsors, Pure Leisure and the local management team, caterers and bar staff, greenkeepers, seniors committee and Maria, Petra, Michelle and Sarah from the ladies section who organised the halfway house.
