Tigers fall to foot of table despite battling point

Holbeach United bounced back from a heavy midweek defeat but a point on Saturday was not enough to avoid a drop to the foot of the Eastern Counties Division One North table.
They followed last Wednesday’s 5-0 home thrashing by FC Peterborough with a spirited battle against FC Clacton, drawing 2-2.
The midweek defeat saw the Tigers ship four first-half goals, with the visitors’ Vitor Vaz completing a rare hat-trick of penalties.
Substitutes Marley Hamilton and Alex Greenfield had the hosts’ best chances of a consolation but failed to hit the target.
That result was quickly put behind them when they stormed into a 2-0 lead against their Essex visitors three days later. Denis Coelho rifled the ball into the net after 22 minutes when he capitalised on the goalkeeper flapping at a hopeful high ball into the area under pressure from Flynn Hyde.
Four minutes later, Hyde forced a mix-up at the back and Josh Williams smashed a shot into the net off the cross bar from the edge of the area.
However, Clacton pulled one back after 58 minutes and snatched a point 12 minutes before the end with another goal. Captain Sam Carter had a chance to regain the home lead but saw his free-kick hit a post.
Despite the Tigers sinking to the bottom of the standings, they are only three points adrift of Wroxham Reserves, who sit ten places higher.
A swift turnaround in fixtures, sees Holbeach take on Clacton again on Saturday, this time on the Essex coast.
