Thousands raised after dad dies in collision

More than £3,000 has been raised after a father who recently turned 40 was killed in a road accident on Friday.

Andrius Toliunas was driving to his Sutton Bridge home from work at the town’s Bakkavor factory because he’d left his lunch at home. His Vauxhall Meriva collided with a lorry at 9.22am on Centenary Way and he died.

He leaves behind his widow Ana Toliuniene, four-year-old son Aivaras Toliunas, sister Jolita Petroviene and mother Laima Toliuniene.

Ana described Andrius as her “soulmate”, and the couple were together for 17 years.

They married in their native Lithuania in 2015, four years after they first moved to the UK.

“I am feeling the pain of his loss deep in my soul,” she said.

Both of Andrius’s next-door neighbours have set up fund-raising pages for the family who have said they’d like to use the money to bury him in Lithuania.

As The Voice went to press more than £3,000 had been raised in total.

Gareth Edwards lives next door with his partner Karolina Milowickn, and previously worked with him at

Bakkavor Salads, where Andrius’s hygiene operative role was due to be made redundant in the New Year.

“I found him to be a very friendly and considerate person.

“Always in a good mood and happy to chat. He’ll be sorely missed.”

Kerry Childs said she wanted Ana and Aivaras to realise they’re not alone.

“All of the family are lovely people,” she said.

“Andrius was so kind and caring and always the first to help others. I wanted to let Ana know she is not alone, and this community has definitely shown that.”

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Police said: “The collision happened at 9.22am on, Friday, 16 December, on Centenary Way, Sutton Bridge.

“We are appealing for any witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to contact us on 101, quoting incident 97 of Friday, 16 December.”

The Just Giving page is ‘We’re raising £500 to help support Andrius’ wife and son.’

The GoFundMe page set-up by Kerry, is called A Grieving Family This Xmas.
