Thieves target town fire station

Thieves have stolen fire fighting equipment after breaking into a town fire station.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue say thankfully Long Sutton Fire Crew received no call -outs that needed the gear before it could be replaced.

The theft was at its Station Road base on Monday, February 2, and thieves damaged the building to get in.

Police are linking it with three other fire stations having been targeted in the county at the end of 2025.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire County Council, which oversees Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, said: “We can confirm that Long Sutton is the latest station to have suffered from targeted criminal activity. As well as damage to the station itself, operational equipment has been stolen from our appliances.

“Needless to say, if the station received a call-out before this was discovered, this thoughtless crime would have deprived our crews of equipment potentially needed to save lives.

“Thankfully, on each occasion our stations have been targeted, we have been able to replace stolen equipment swiftly and without a significant impact on our operational capability.

“We continue to work closely with Lincolnshire Police throughout their investigations into these series of crimes and we continue to take their advice and support in monitoring and enhancing security at our stations.”

The chair of Long Sutton Parish Council, John Cleary said: “I just can’t understand anyone doing this because no one knows who and when the next time this is needed for – it could even be for the folks who committed this awful crime.”
