The magic of music

Spalding Amateur Dramatic and Operatic Society (SADOS) is just one week away from its next production The Magic of Music: A SADOS Summer Showcase.

Working hard in rehearsals SADOS and Act II are getting ready to “flash bang wallop” their way through 34 songs from the stage, screen and charts to deliver a fantastic night’s entertainment.

Director Brett Moore said: ‘’It’s been a great honour to be part of the first ever SADOS summer show in its long history.

“The show came about by asking members which songs they’d like to perform.

“It wasn’t long before we created a vast eclectic mix worthy of performance.

“I had to find a way of whittling the song choice down to a reasonable and entertaining mix.

“The result being a short script which mulls over the magical influence music has on all of us and a performance reminiscent of those 70s variety shows.

“It also offered another first, our collaboration with Spalding’s Act II and an opportunity for our cast to work with much younger folk.

“But this type of show has its difficulties with some 34 songs; much more than a regular musical, and therefore lots of choreography and musical considerations.

“Having said that, the relatively small cast have come together and provided me with a fantastic demonstration of the great talent Spalding has to offer and worked like troupers to give a great evening’s entertainment.

“As with every show, we’ve had loads of laughs and a few tears but the hard work has proven worth it so far because I’m sure, this year, we are going to bring the audiences of South Holland an emotional rollercoaster and a brilliant night out.”

The show takes place at the South Holland Centre, Spalding, from Wednesday to Saturday (May 23) at 7.30pm including a 2.30pm matinee on Saturday.

This year the show is supported by The Spalding and South Holland Voice and Act II Theatre Company.

Tickets are £12 (£10 concessions) with a special offer on the opening night when all tickets are £5.

They are available from www.southhollandcentre.co.uk or on 01775 764777.
