Terrific Tydd St Mary in seventh heaven as Lowe fires hat-trick

Tydd St Mary returned from a four-week break with a sublime 7-1 win over Uppingham Town Reserves in ChromaSport PDFL Division Three on Saturday.

Tim Lowe got the rout under way when he slammed home Dan Piccaver’s cross on 16 minutes at Wisbech’s Thomas Clarkson 3G pitch.

On 22 minutes Tydd doubled their lead when Stu Easey sent over a wicked whipped corner for Josh Slator to flick in at the near post for 2-0.

Three minutes later Ian Thrower clipped a great ball down the right for Piccaver to beat two players and slot home for 3-0.

It got even better on 35 minutes when Easey found Lowe with a lovely lobbed pass for him to fire home his second and Tydd’s fourth.

Tydd began to make changes during the second half with the luxury of five subs on the bench available – and it was super-sub Paul Clarke who made it 5-0 on 63 minutes when a Jason Powley pass found him on the edge of the box.

Still a lot of work to do, Clarke looked up and fired a cracking shot into the top right hand corner to give the Uppingham keeper no chance.

Two minutes later it was 6-0 when Lowe was felled in the box and scored the subsequent penalty to complete his hat-trick.

The best goal of the game was saved until the 82nd minutes when Clarke was brilliantly set up by Darren Rawthorn to score a screamer from the edge of the 18-yard box to make it 7-0.

Uppingham pulled a consolation back in time added on, but The Saints ran out comfortable winners on the day to move into seventh place.
