Team of Spalding heating engineers donates free time to Pinchbeck church work

Generous heating engineers gave a day of their weekend at no cost to help St Mary’s Church at Pinchbeck.

The church is having a new, more efficient heating system installed and asked Spalding firm Simon Barker Plumbing and Heating to quote to remove 16 wall-mounted gas heaters and the pipework.

Director Sim0n Barker offered to undertake the full day’s work in return for the church making a donation to the Royal British Legion, for which he is a Poppy Appeal collector.

Simon, along with Dave Pitts, Kirt Powell, Harvey Maxwell, Jake Loveridge and Jordan Kirk, did the work last Saturday, assisted by Simon’s wife Sarah and mother-in-law Denise Cooper.

Churchwarden Alison Gray said: “For many years St Mary’s has been heated by an old, inefficient and very ugly system of gas wall heaters.

“We are currently in the process of installing a new chandelier system of infrared heaters which we hope will be a huge improvement and as part of that process we needed a company to come in and safely remove the old gas heaters and the associated pipework.

“Simon Barker very graciously offered to do this work for us and only asked that we make a donation to the Pinchbeck Branch of the Royal British Legion for this year’s appeal, which we were very happy to do.
“We are extremely grateful to Mr Barker and his team of engineers for the brilliant job they did.
“St Mary’s is a beautiful church and it is fantastic to see it without those ugly old heaters.”

Anyone wishing to donate to St Mary’s Church Heating and Restoration Fund can do so at HSBC (sort code 40-43-01 account number 01528017).
