Talented Spalding Golf Club duo help Lincolnshire reach national finals

Teenage Spalding Golf Club members Tilly Garfoot and Tilly Kedzlie enjoyed a successful time representing Lincolnshire ladies at the Midlands North Region county finals.

A series of matches against Leicestershire and Rutland, Staffordshire, Shropshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire over three days resulted in victory for Lincolnshire.

Garfoot, who is 16, and 18-year-old Kedzlie now move forward with Lincolnshire to represent the region at the national finals in September.

Posting on social networking site Twitter, Garfoot said: “So proud to be part of the winning team for the Midlands North Region county finals. Bring on the nationals!”

  • A Spalding team consisting of Simon Richardson, Hugo Kedzlie and Tommy Hull visited Kenwick Park in the latest round of the Bramley Trophy.

In a closely fought contest Spalding eventually ran out 2-1 winners. The talented team now have a home semi-final match against Belton Park Golf Club at the Surfleet course on July 16.

  • A total of 74 players contested Spalding’s Seniors’ Monthly Medal last Tuesday, with Mark Craig and John Beba the divisional winners.

Results: Division One – 1st Mark Craig (10) 70; 2nd Wayne Wallace (4) 70; 3rd Neil Wilkinson (8) 71; 4th Ray Harrison (15) 72.

Division Two – 1st John Beba (22) 73; 2nd – John Cooper (36) 74; 3rd – Michael O’Brien (21) 75; 4th Stephen Colby (29) 76

  • Last Monday saw Spalding’s seniors entertain a team from Royal Cromer Golf Club in a return match.

All Spalding pairings performed well, which resulted in a 6.5-0.5 win for Spalding in what was their best result to date.

  • Last Thursday saw captain for the day Jim Dobson take a team of Spalding seniors to Sleaford Golf Club.

His team talk must have been inspiring as he led them to an excellent 5.5-2.5 win.
