The English Takeaway team’s dream to spread cheer on Christmas Day

Elderly, lonely and homeless people could be looking forward to a merry Christmas thanks to a food delivery business.

The English Takeaway, based in Whaplode, is putting feelers out to see if there would be support if they were to provide Christmas dinner for all those people across the area who otherwise wouldn’t get one or would eat alone.

The family-run business believes it could cost in the region of £800 to provide the meal and want to know if people are prepared to lend a hand as well as dig in their pockets to get the idea off the ground.

Kimbly Mackman, one of the family members behind The English Takeaway, said: “We provide a meals on wheels service to about 30 people a day and we know many people face a very lonely Christmas Day and probably won’t be enjoying a nice dinner, so that’s where this idea came from.

“My mum has already told the family we will be working on Christmas Day to do this, if it goes ahead, and we want to know if anyone else would be willing to lend a hand or just donate £1 or £2 to finance it.

“We want to provide dinner to all those who would be alone.
“We will deliver to those who are housebound but we also are looking at having a venue where people, including any that are homeless, can come together and eat and socialise to make Christmas a little bit better.

“If we can get a good response to the idea we can start setting things in motion – such as arranging a venue.
“Without a shadow of a doubt there are people in South Holland who would benefit. Some are unable to cook for themselves and others have no family and otherwise would not see anyone on Christmas Day.
“We want the community to get behind us to make it a reality.”

Kimbly has set up a page to collect donations at www.gofundme.com/englishtakeaway, but anyone interested in helping can call the 01406 420016 or search The English Takeaway on Facebook.
