The early South Lincs Border League Championship leaders are Moulton Harrox after Matt Rose’s side chalked up a fourth straight win.
After bowling out Bourne for 99, they ran out five-wicket winners, coasting to 103/5.
Bourne won the toss and chose to bat. Medium pacer Rose took the new ball but it was Uddyhan Hansana who struck first, beating the opener for pace. Rose then removed Bourne’s captain, trapped in front. All-rounder
Robbie Townsend entered the attack and picked up two wickets with his skiddy medium pace, exploiting the low bounce to full effect.
With Bourne wobbling, Flynn McMillan came on and struck quickly, pinning Tom Dixon for a plumb LBW. McMillan then claimed the key wicket of David Christmas.
McMillan continued the damage, finishing with an excellent 6-20.
Jamie Juckes and Ruari Drumm opened for Harrox, with Juckes ladling a few to the leg side before a sliced shot cannoned into his middle stump and sent it cartwheeling – out for 17.
Josh Newton middled a moon ball straight to the wicketkeeper for four but the previous week’s stubborn hero Matt Barnett carried on where he left off, grinding out a match-winning 32 from 109 balls. It was far from pretty but it did the job. Hansana finished the match in style, hitting ten from three balls, including a blistering six into the swimming pool as the visitors reached their target in just 21 overs.
Neighbours Long Sutton sit at the opposite end of the table, having lost all three of their matches so far but were without a game on Saturday.
In Division One, Moulton Harrox Seconds fell to a fourth consecutive defeat, losing by nine wickets at home to Orton Park.
Batting first, the hosts had a tough day at the office. Clive Bayston was dismissed for nought, immediately putting Harrox on the back foot and two more quick wickets followed, leaving the score at a dismal 8/3.
Veteran Simon Juckes launched a counter-attack, striking a gutsy 25 before one swipe too many saw his stumps rearranged. Pradeep Indika added a composed unbeaten 12 and Alex Baker chipped in with a lively 19, including three boundaries, but Harrox were eventually bowled out for 95.
In reply, Orton Park chased down the total with ease, losing just one wicket on their way to 96/1 – a run out by captain Rob Callaby.
Flynn McMillan stood in as captain for Harrox’s Sunday side in Division Four East of the Rutland League due to Harry Lovell’s absence.
Moulton lost the toss and were sent in to bat with wickets falling regularly. Only Charlie Poulter, with a fluent 38, and Zak Maddison, 13, made it into double figures as Harrox fell for 91.
In response, Whittlesey scored 91/3, with all three wickets taken by academy players – a bright spot for the future. Jotham Suwarneraj finished with 1-10, Rocky Kadchha 1-20 and Sethmina Adhikaramge 1-24.
