Table tennis round-up: South Holland close the gap to leaders on busy night of action

The Spalding and District Table Tennis League resumed after the holiday with a mix of matches from three competitions.

In all, eight matches were played in part and one completely.

In fairness, three other unfinished matches from earlier in the season were also completed.

Officially it was round three of the Moulton Shield and Bladerunners and Moulton SE completed their match.

Their league match had finished 2-3 and this had the same score line.

Blades took first blood in three ends, but Moulton hit back in the next singles and the doubles, also in three. However, the Blades pair took the final two singles to reverse the league score and advance to the final.

Their opponents there are unknown, as Jokers and Underdogs have still to finish their round two tie. The scores were level, but Jokers now lead 2-1.

The round one Marylands Cup match between Underdogs and Outsiders also got under way. Adrian Dinvlescu proved too strong for his opponents and their handicaps, giving his team a 2-0 lead.

In the league, both scheduled matches finished at 1-1.

Jokers’ Guntars Briedes scored for Jokers and Andrew Appleby levelled scores for Moulton SE.

In Division Two, Richard Matthews took a point against Hurricane Brothers with Sam Wallis returning the compliment.

Earlier, they had completed their match from November – with the Brothers finishing 4 -1 winners.

Hurricanes also managed to start a delayed match with Pottermus Clarets.

This too stands at 1-1, with George Wallis matching Clarets Tom Chesworth’s win.

JDM had mirror scores in two matches they finished against Nets n Edges and South Holland.

With John Chesworth returning from injury, they added his singles and the doubles to the two points already gained to win by a hefty 5-0.

Before that they had suffered the same fate themselves at the hands of South Holland.

It was a busy night, but the tally of matches to be caught up increased to 14, plus cup matches.

In the tables Jokers still lead by seven from Moulton, but South Holland have gained a little ground in third.

Outsiders have leapt to fourth on the back of a pre-Christmas win.

In Division Two, Pottermus Clarets still lead by four from 200up, but have played less matches.Hurricanes have reduced the deficit on second, with matches in hand.
