Table tennis round-up: Pottermus Clarets edge further clear in second tier

The Spalding and District Table Tennis League was hit last week by the bad weather – but there was some play in nine matches.

However, with just a third of the season left – and some of that taken up with individual championships – there are over a third of matches to be played or completed.

None of the top five in Division One were in action, meaning this week’s scores had little effect on the tables; just two mid-table teams swapping places.

JDM were the beneficiaries, Phil Chandler taking two in the match with Mine’s a Pint, and another against Nets n Edges.

Outsiders’ Keith Davey also scored two, but Aches and Pains’ pair pushed him to four and five ends respectively.

The rest of the action was in Division Two.

Leaders Pottermus Clarets completed their match with Castle Sports, taking the fifth end for a whitewash and adding another in the scheduled match with MatDuf.

Chasers 200up dropped back a little because of that, as they were only able to play one game against rivals Hurricane Brothers.

The latter had a busy evening, taking one from MatDuf – delayed from November – and completing a 4-1 win over Castle Sports spread over four nights from January.

They also added another two against the same opposition brought forward from later in March.

The next round of fixtures sees round two of the Guardian Cup.

Nets n Edges meet Castle Sports, Mine’s a Pint face 200 up, the winners of Underdogs and JDM will play MatDuf (who were awarded a win in round one) and Hurricane Brothers, who were also awarded a win, have drawn Pottermus Clarets.

Also given a win by the committee were Pottermus Clarets in their delayed Marylands Cup round one match.

They now play Castle Sports in the next round of the competition.
