Table tennis round-up: Outsiders hold off the Hurricanes, JDM win big

Last week saw a busy night of action in the Spalding and District Table Tennis League.

Outsiders played Hurricane Brothers, with Garry Wilkinson and Keith Davey both securing wins in their singles games and just missing out on the doubles.

The Hurricanes – Sam and George Wallis – won the doubles in four ends, leaving the final score at 4-1 to Outsiders.

JDM’s Jon Chesworth and Joe Cox played Rusty Nails’ Richard Matthews and John Hayter.

Although JDM took all five games Matthews fought hard his games to four ends against Cox and five ends against Chesworth.

Nets and Edges then played half of their game against Jokers.

Gunters Briedes took on both Jack Sawyer and Reece Kerry and they pushed him to four ends.

However, Briedes took both games – leaving the current score 2-0 to Jokers.

Nets and Edges also finished their match against Rusty Nails as they wrapped up a big 5-0 victory. They then also finished their match against Mines a Pint, picking up another victory, this time by 4-1.

There are several other matches to be caught up on, including: Mine’s a Pint v Newside, Jokers v Nets and Edges, Newside v Jokers, JDM v Newside, Mine’s a Pint v South Holland, Jokers v Rusty Nails, Outsiders v Hurricane Brothers, Jokers v Mine’s a Pint.

Newside’s Moulton Shield semi-final against South Holland and the Guardian Cup semi-final between Mine’s a Pint and Jokers are also on the horizon.

Meanwhile, the league has been delighted to be joined by regular visitors and potential new players at their Spalding High School Sports Hall base.
