Moulton SE top the Division One table after the second round of league fixtures in the Spalding and District Table Tennis League.
All scheduled matches got under way, but unfortunately two were unfinished – but at least another was caught up.
A 5-0 win over Aches and Pains moved Moulton SE to the summit. The Applebys – Stephen and Andrew – won all games in straight ends, being forced into deuces just twice and are obviously ones to watch.
Jokers are in the mix once again having claimed a win against Nets n Edges and a 4-0 lead over Outsiders. Hopping between the two matches they took the first four games off the Edgers without loss, with Sasha Martin also scoring a whitewash in one.
However, Reece Kerry had other ideas and won the final singles to hold Jokers to 4-1.
With the Outsiders match yet to play the doubles Jokers are level on points at the top.
Martin and team mate Guntars Briedes won all the singles, but Martin was pushed to a fifth by newcomer Adrian Dinvlescu while Briedes needed two deuces in four ends. Underdogs, a point further back, also have an unfinished match – with Mine’s a Pint.
Jeremy Hitcham took the first singles for the Pinters but that is the limit of their success so far.
Kelvin Preville won both his singles in three, and then teamed up with Dylan Taylor for the doubles.
South Holland battled to a 3-2 win over Bladerunners. David Gibson took the first, but John Gilbert levelled; Gilbert and Jean White then went ahead with the doubles before Gibson equalised and then White sealed the match.
The other match was between Outsiders and JDM and was a tight affair.
All except the final game went five, and that took four, but JDM’s Phil Chandler and Jon Chesworth won all the singles, only losing the doubles.
In Division Two, 200 up and Pottermus Clarets are tied for top place though Clarets are leading 2-1 in the match between the two. Clarets had taken the doubles last week in four and Richard
Matthews levelled for 200 before Tom Chesworth won his second game in the fifth.
MatDuf’s juniors played together for the first time against Castle Sports. Finlay Bembridge scored a double but Ping Wang and Tony Dorey had too much for his team mate and added the doubles.
