Table tennis round-up: Jokers and Moulton flying high in Spalding League’s top flight

The Spalding and District Table Tennis League was hit by a wave of postponements last week – but six matches still went ahead.

Jokers and Moulton SE continue to fight out the top of Division One.

Jokers faced Mine’s a Pint and won all five games, Sasha Martin and Guntars Briedes sharing the spoils.

For the losers Jeremy Hitcham had an unfortunate night, leading in both games but going down in five and four ends respectively.

Moulton also scored a whitewash, against Nets and Edges in a match brought forward, taking all the games in straight ends.

Having said that one of the losing team commented how much he had enjoyed the evening.

Earlier, Moulton had played two games of their scheduled match with Underdogs.

The latter were down to just one player with the other unavailable due to suffering a muscle injury the previous week.

Thanks to those two points the Applebys scored for Moulton they now head the table, though Jokers have a match in hand.

South Holland move up to third after a 4-1 victory over Aches and Pains.

The four singles all finished in regulation with Jean White taking two and then teaming up with Ione Dumitrache for the doubles which they won in five.

Gary Wilkinson scored for Aches and Pains.

In Division Two, Pottermus Clarets took a step away from rivals 200up, whose match was postponed, with a 5-0 win over the new MatDuf line up.

Peter Chester was too strong for his young opponents and Tom Chesworth continues to show his improvement.

Later in the evening, Castle Sports brought forward a match in December against MatDuf which had to be left unfinished at 2-2.

Finlay Bembridge repeated his singles wins from their recent match, while Ping Wang took a single for Castle along with the doubles with Tony Dorey.
