Spalding and District Table Tennis League – sponsored by Vital Recruitment – held its second night of individual events featuring the divisional titles and the veterans.
A total of 23 members turned out – slightly up on the previous night – and were drawn out in the three competitions. Nine battled it out in Division One, with 14 in the other two (two seeds in each).
Of the three competitions, only the Division Two title was completed.
Garry Wilkinson was seeded one and reached the final by defeating Jeremy Hitcham 11-5, 13-11, 11-7, while Daniel Dorey (2) went through against Stewart Duffill 11-9, 11-8, 13-15, 11-9.
The final was a little swings and roundabouts, with Wilkinson taking the first 13-11 only for Dorey to come back 11-2.
The third was tighter and went to Dorey by 12-10 as he took the title in his first season 11-9 in the fourth.
In Division One, the two seeds Richard Hammond (1) and Phil Chandler (2) reached the final, which was held over.
Chandler got there with an 11-8, 11-6, 10-12, 11-7 win over Joe Beadle, while Hammond defeated Guntars Briedes 11-1, 11-8, 11-4.
The same two were seeded for the Veterans and are in line to meet again, having reached the semi-finals.
Hammond had won against Wilkinson and now faces Briedes, who had defeated Phil Knowles for his place.
In the other half of the draw, Dave Gibson earned his place at the expense of Keith Davey and meets Phil Chandler, who got past Andrew Hay to take his designated spot.
Earlier in the evening Hay and team-mate Hitcham had secured their second trophy of the season when they outgunned Bourne Nightmayors in the Guardian Cup final.
Taking all four singles games gave them a maximum of 132 to Bourne’s 80, but the handicapper only gave the latter an extra nine, so the title went to the Pinters.
An end was also played in MatDuf’s games against Bourne Nightmayors and Hurricane Brothers.
Fitting two extra games in did MatDuf no favours as they lost both, Dylan Taylor taking Bourne’s point and the Wallis brothers winning the doubles from their match.
