The GCE Hire Fleet Peterborough League season ended on a high for South Lincolnshire Swifts.
Despite missing out on a top -two finish in Division Three, the Fosdyke-based side picked up silverware thanks to a thrilling last-gasp victory in the Junior Cup final at Deeping Rangers on Friday. Stanground Cardea Sports Reserves led three times but each time Swifts hit back before grabbing a stoppage-time winner.
Sports went ahead after 29 minutes but Dawid Gos equalised immediately, only for the Peterborough side to take a 2-1 lead into the break courtesy of a goal in the second minute of stoppage time.
Keilin Spurdens made it 2-2 after 70 minutes but Swifts conceded another five minutes later. With four minutes to go substitute Tom Coote equalised and six minutes after the 90 minutes were up, Kieron McConnell held his nerve to make it 4-3 from the spot.
Crowland Town got back to winning ways just in time to lift their mood ahead of next week’s Senior Cup final against Warboys Town.
A 5-2 win against Leverington Sports in their final Premier Division match of the season secured runners-up spot but was only their second win in their last nine games as their title hopes collapsed.
The Crows take on Warboys on Thursday, May 9, 7.30pm, at Stamford.
Leverington were also the final opponents of the season for deposed champions Moulton Harrox. Tuesday’s 2-1 win, saw Moulton finish the season in fourth place.
