Sutton continue fine start to season

Long Sutton kept up their unbeaten start to the South Lincolnshire and Border League Championship with a comprehensive win over Market Deeping 2nd XI.

After being put in by the home side and losing Calvin Bird for a run a ball nine with the score on 14, a brilliant partnership of 104 from Nathan Oliver and Dan Oldfield set Sutton on their way.
Oldfield was in destructive form smashing 72 from just 55 balls, hitting 15 fours in the process.
The more patient Oliver was then joined by Tim Norris in a partnership of 52 before the opener finally fell for 34.
A mini collapse of five wickets for 12 runs stalled the charge somewhat.
Deeping’s Josh Codd claimed 5 for 60 as Sutton slipped from 152 for 2 to 165 for 7.
But Norris remained and backed by a handy 20 from Jacob Guy, helped the visitors reach 247 before being the last man out in the 42nd over for a fine 69.
That proved to be too much for Deeping who were bowled out for 134 in the 32nd over.
Opening bowlers Josh Baker and Barry Stanway set the tone.
The former took 3 for 34 and latter 3 for 44.
Captain Jake Burton then mopped up the tail, claiming 4 for 9 from 6.2 overs.
It’s five wins from five in the games that haven’t been abandoned so far this season and Sutton are top of the table level on points with Woodhall Spa.

Long Sutton’s 2nd XI have also enjoyed a good start to the Division Two season and sit fourth after Saturday’s 76 run win over Royal Boston.
After being put in, they posted 165 all out.
Telling contributions at the top of the order from Aaron John (27), Dom Clay (18) and Ed Barnes (17) took Sutton to 63 for 1, but they collapsed to 74 for 5.
Daniel Plant hit a counter attacking 28 from 20 balls helped his side into three figures, while Jack Baker (27) ensured they made 165 before being all out in the 42nd over.
Sutton’s opening bowlers Rob Simpson and Plant made short work of the Boston top order after the opening partnership of 19.
Simpson claimed 4 for 18 and Plant 3 for 12 from their nine overs as Royal Boston were left 30 for 7.
The visitors made Long Sutton work for the final wickets but it was James Baker who cleared up taking 3 for 11 in 8.1 overs.

The Sunday side 1st XI are second in Division Two of the Rutland Sunday League.
It was a day for the bowlers at Werrington on Sunday where Sutton skittled the home side’s 2nd XI out for 74.
Charlie Crisp was the pick as he took 5 for 18 from his eight overs.
Paul Edgeller claimed 3 for 22 and Jake Burton 1 for 6 from six overs as Sutton’s bowlers dominated and bowled the opposition out in the 30th over.
The visitors took just 13.4 overs to knock that total off, but lost a few wickets on the way.
Calvin Bird (10) and Oliver (21) put on 27 together but Sutton then slipped to 36 for 3.
Plant hit 11 from eight balls, Edgeller 6 from seven and Josh Baker was 7 not out from four balls as Long Sutton earned a two wicket win.

The Sunday 2nd XI couldn’t make it a clean sweep for Long Sutton as they were heavily beaten at CSKA.
The home side’s opener Max Mattless hit 58 from 56 after they were put in, but the visitors kept chipping away having the opposition 96 for 4 and 139 for 7.
But 45 smashed from just 29 balls and 27 from 18 by Toby Allen ensured CSKA posted 211 all out.
There was a five wicket haul for Sutton’s Faz Mukhtar and wickets too for Paul Rushen (1 for 23), Simpson (1 for 29) and Andy Shaw (1 for 37).
Mukhtar and Rushen also top scored with the bat for Sutton with seven as their reply disintegrated.
They were 39 all out in 12 overs as CSKA claimed a 172 run win.
