Sutton beat high-flyers

Long Sutton claimed the scalp of high-flying East Carlton in their penultimate match of the Rutland League Division Three season on Sunday.

 
Sutton had dismissed their visitors for 170 after East Carlton had won the toss and elected to bat.

 
Matt Bull bagged an impressive 3-14 from a four over spell while Paul Edgeller bowled out his 12 overs for a return of 3-51.

 
Opener Greg Hofbauer had led the scoring for East Carlton after smashing seven boundaries in his 72.

 
Sutton opener Dan Oldfield was the architect of his side’s successful reply after ensuring a promising first wicket stand with Jamie Taylor (27).

 
Oldfield went on to plunder nine fours and two sixes in an unbeaten 67 to see Sutton home to victory.

 
He was given valuable support by Barry Stanway whose boundary-laden 35 not out consisted of seven fours and one six.

 
Long Sutton 2nd were skittled out for 72 in their Division Six match at Newborough.

 
The hosts totalled 246-8 from their 45 overs thanks to an unbeaten century from Greg Rowland. Beth Milnes claimed 3-39 from six overs for Sutton.

 
Opener Philip Coote (26) and Craig Milnes (18no) were the only Sutton batsmen to reach double figures as they suffered a 174-run defeat.
