Super Spalding United storm to impressive victory at Northwich Victoria

Spalding United picked up an eye-catching 3-1 win at Northwich Victoria on Saturday as their impressive start to the Evo-Stik NPL Division One South season continued.

Goals from Nathan Whitehead (6), the in-form Bradley Wells (28) and young gun Jonny Lockie (90) got the job done for Dave Frecklington’s side in Cheshire.

Alex Byrne (71) did give the hosts hope of bagging a point late on, but the Tulips superbly dispatched a side that are tipped by many to be challenging for promotion come the end of the season.

The Tulips, who are now fourth in the early standings, host rivals Stamford next on Monday (3pm).

Meanwhile, Pinchbeck United kicked off the defence of their President Premier Shield crown with a 6-1 success at Leverington Sports.

Ollie Maltby (2), Tony Edwards, Liam Ogden, Chris Shipley and Fabio Ramos netted for Ian Dunn’s side.

In the PDFL Premier Division, Holbeach United Reserves bounced back from their midweek humbling by Moulton Harrox to win 3-2 at Thorney.

Elsewhere in the PDFL, Long Sutton Athletic found some form to beat Netherton Reserves 2-0 in the Chairman Championship Shield, while Moulton Harrox Reserves lost 5-2 at Peterborough Wittering Harriers in the same competition.
