Sunshine, flowers and crowds for parade – Spalding Flower Parade – Gallery 2

Around 100,000 people came to see the summer blockbuster that was Spalding Flower Parade 2024

This year’s movie theme went down a treat with those who lined the parade route.
Organiser Steve Timewell believes it’s the biggest flower parade the town has seen with an event at night and another on Sunday.
“It was extremely successful, exhausting but exhilarating,” said Steve. “I think it was easier this year but that’s because I had a bigger and better team.
“There was so much going on all weekend, which made it quite intense, but it was worth it for the fantastic atmosphere it generated in the town.
“On the Saturday afternoon we counted at least 35,000 in the Castle Sports Complex.
“There was a lovely family atmosphere on the Sunday.”
Steve was particularly delighted with the volunteers who came forward to help the event run smoothly as possible.
A Go Fund Me page has been set up to buy a meal or celebration for all those who volunteered, something he called ‘a lovely gesture’.
With more staff it allowed Steve himself to head the parade of over 50 floats and hundreds of people of all ages and backgrounds.
“I loved it,” he said. “It was a real honour and a privilege.
“I didn’t do it for the fame but it’s really nice to be appreciated.”
The parade’s headliner was Flower Queen Becs Roberts.
“It was amazing,” said the accountant who works at TC in Holbeach.
“It was such a lovely experience and I was surprised by how busy everywhere was. Everyone was really excited to meet the queen.”
The mother of two aged four and two, watched the parade last year from West Elloe Road.
“It was my children’s first parade,” Becs continued. “They loved it and were so excited.”
So what about the Spalding Flower Parade 2025?
“I don’t think it’s my decision,” said Steve. “It’s down to the whole team.
“We’ll have our debrief in a few days and we’ll take it from there.”
