As the season comes to a close, a number of competitions have been held to celebrate the end of a very successful first season for this new croquet club based at Gosberton Bowls and Snooker Club.
An invitation doubles event was held with experienced players from Gainsborough, Downham Market and Southwell croquet clubs attending to take on the club’s Tim Barzycki and Anthony Cronin.
Some very hard fought games left Gosberton and both Gainsborough pairs tied on three wins each. Similarly two of the teams were also tied on hoops scored. It therefore came down to hoops against, which meant Gosberton won by the slimmest of margins.
There were also an internal doubles and singles event.
The doubles was a random pairing with each partner claiming the points scored and then moving on to play with another partner to provide an individual winner.
With nine people taking part this led to 12 games being played.
Barzycki won this contest with 35 points with Cronin a close second on 34 with newcomer Brenda Burnett in third.
Meanwhile in the singles competition, entries were low due to a number of players being away or not available. However, a good day was had despite some light rain.
With ten games played two finished with a 10-9 scoreline and another three requiring 17 or 18 hoops before an outcome, with once again Barzycki was victorious.
