Submarine veteran pens memories

A Royal Navy veteran from Surfleet has published his life story ranging from 34 years in submarines and his current battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Ports, Posts and Parkinson’s is the work of Tony Ford, 59, who grew up in Surfleet where his parents John and Maureen Ford still reside.

Tony spent more than three decades in the Royal Navy Submarine Service rising up to the rank of Harbour Master for the West of Scotland.

However his career was ended prematurely due to the Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2011.

Now spending most of his time in Lanzarote with partner Anita, the father-of-five has campaigned and raised over £500,000 for research into his condition.

He’s also now a published author and working on his first fiction book about World War Two.

“I wanted to explain to people that anyone can come from anywhere to do anything.

“Don’t give up on things. If you want to do it crack on and do it.”

Ports, Posts and Parkinson’s is available from Amazon here.
