Stunning total clearance as Gray makes 139 again

Marvellous Mark Gray made his second 139 total clearance of 2015 as he helped his Bourne SC A side sink Spalding and District Snooker League Division One champions Tulips B on Thursday night.

Ex-pro Gray, who plays off a massive O105 handicap, made the stunning break in a 139-91 frame win over Martin Deacon (O14).

A member of Europe’s Mosconi Cup winning pool side of 2014, Gray made his other 139 total clearance in January. “Granite” also boasts the best-ever break in the Spalding league’s history, having made a 141 in 2012.

He was well backed up by team-mate Oliver Player (O28), who sunk a 41 break in the final frame to seal a second win on the spin for the promoted Bourne side.

It’s the exact opposite for champions Tulips, who have lost both games so far.

Elsewhere in the top tier, Bren Bowman (O56) made breaks of 27 and 24 as Tulips A earned a 5-1 win at Boundary A to get their first victory of the campaign.

It was closer between Donington A and Long Sutton B, with the former earning a 4-2 away success to rack up back-to-back wins.

Matt Turner (scr) settled that game with a final-frame win over Tom Horspool (O21).

Services A also made it two wins from two with a 4-2 triumph over Consti B. Johnny McDowell (O7) sank a 24 break as he wrapped up the win for his team in the penultimate frame.

In Division Two, Consti I reached ten points after winning 5-1 at Pyramid C.

David Walker (scr) made a 28 break for the Bourne boys, but David Twelves (R14), Stewart Wells (R21), Pete Stores (R21) and Richard Geddes (R14) hit back to fire Consti to glory.

Holbeach C are also flawless after two games following their 4-2 home win over Crowland A.

Paul Ashton (R7) settled the battle with a win over Paul Cook (scr), although Richard Walker (R7) made a 21 break for Crowland.

The best break in Division Two came from Marcus Hamilton (O35), who pocketed 47 in a 5-1 win at Crowland B.

Holbeach B’s Zac Rowlett (O21) also starred with a 40 break, but his side were beaten 4-2 at Crowland C.

There was a top team showing from Pyramid B too, as they saw off Gosberton D 4-2. Four of the five players made solid scores, with Alfonso Palumbo (O42) making breaks of 32 and 34, Spencer Dawkins (O49) sinking a 22 clearance, Dave Pearson (O7) managing a 32 break and Jason Green (O56) trousering a cool 28.

Down in Division Two, Consti J continued their stellar start to the season with a 5-1 victory over Pyramid E.

Les Andrews (scr) was their top performer with a 22 break.

A 20 break from Jack Chilvers (O14) also helped Services F win 5-1 at Gosberton A to extend their winning run to two games.

Another side boasting two wins from as many matches are Bourne SC B. They beat Consti E 4-2, with Lester Gaunt (O35) bagging a 21 break.

Meanwhile, Long Sutton C produced a fine comeback to win 4-2 at Donington D.

Trailing after three frames, Mark Dennis (R7) and David Lefley (scr) won the last two to clinch a maiden win of the campaign for Sutton.
