It’s been a busy few weeks for the Rotary Club of Spalding, including planting trees for a new orchard.
It was carried out as part of the work to return Moulton Park to public use. Rotarian Trevor Clay said: “The Rotary Club of Spalding and a good-sized group of volunteers had a good time planting trees in Moulton Park recently and although it was a bit exhausting it was very worthwhile and enjoyable.”
The organisation has also been having a stall on Spalding’s Saturday market recently to explain to people the kind of work they take on.
Among them was a quiz where people were asked ten questions about the Rotary.
The person who got the most right was Sarah Welch who won a meal for two at The Red Lion in the town.
“Sarah said that she was delighted to have won and was pleased to be associated with Rotary,” Mr Clay said.
“She is a keen supporter of our community, in particular with ‘Boxes of Hope’ of Holbeach, which coincidentally is Rotarian Sarah Chalcraft’s chosen charity for her year as president of the club.”
Sarah was presented with the chain of office by the outgoing president Diana Ridpath at a ceremony at the Woodlands Hotel recently.
Rotarian Graham Dawson was named as the president elect for the following year.
This was also a particularly momentous event since The Rotary Club of Spalding was also able to welcome many of the members from The Rotary Club of South Holland who had recently transferred into the club.
Mr Clay said: “They will be invaluable in strengthening membership and overall activity both locally and internationally.
“President Sarah is very keen to further stimulate the now expanded club to continue its record of serving the community since 1937 and to open up new opportunities for volunteers and additional members, via the club website, Facebook page, or by coming along to speak to existing members at the gazebo at the Spalding Market.”
