Street star loves couple’s cake

Staff at a Gedney garden centre were given a surprise last week when an acting star popped in.

Julie Hesmondhalgh, who has been a regular on TV screens for over 30 years, including on Coronation Street, popped into The Chestnuts Tea Rooms and Garden Centre.

Owners Adrian and Hazel Drake were delighted to meet the actress.

“She’d been away for the weekend with friends, I think near Cromer, and was travelling back on the A17.

“She had a drink with a Jammie Dodger vegan cake and said it was the best vegan cake she’d ever had.

“She also had a walk around the garden centre.”

The couple began running the Chestnuts in April.

“We’ve looked at turning it back into a garden centre and farm shop and it’s coming along nicely.

“We’re doing more events and things like afternoon teas and they’re going down well.”
