Former Spalding Grammar School pupil Lloyd Kempson led from start to finish as he won one of the biggest races in the country.
The 19-year-old roared to a stunning success at the BUPA Westminster Mile (A string race) in central London, seeing off thousands of rivals in the process.
Running his first ever mile race, Nene Valley Harrier Kempson fought off fierce competition to break the tape just past Birdcage Walk in an impressive time of 4.31mins.
Kempson, who puts the win down to the influence of new coach Dan Grant, is elated with his success.
He said: “I won the A race – which is the fastest race after the elite men’s.
“I led from the start with a Kenyan international just behind to halfway, but dropped him with 600m to go.
“I was challenged again then, so I kicked with 500m left – and when I reached 400m to go the commentator said I was 10m clear.
“By the time I finished I had won by 30m. I couldn’t resist celebrating down the home straight and I loved the interviews.
“I’m so happy to have won on the 60th anniversary of Sir Roger Bannister’s first sub-four-minute mile.”
