Storming morning session steers Tydd St Giles’ management team to glory

The annual Management versus Captain’s team ‘Ryder Cup’ clash at Tydd St Giles Golf Club went the way of the management once again as they prevailed 16-11.

The morning session was played in a nine-holes pairs foursomes matchplay format – which was dominated by the management as they won it 6.5-2.5, setting the tone for the rest of the day.

Ian Edrupt and Neil John (3&2) and Daniel Newell and Will Kirkham (2&1) got the first two points on the board for the management team. Further points were added by Bradley Power and Martin Wells, Andy Hicks and Jimmy Dack, Andy Betts and Mark Whittaker, and Daryl Pacey and Dean Wright.

The afternoon singles session was more tightly contested and for a moment it looked like a comeback might be on the cards.

There were some big wins for Keith Griffiths (5&4), Ash Ziebart (4&3) and Gary Brown (5&4) for the captain’s team, but Neil John (5&4), Michael Flint (5&4) and Daryl Pacey (6&5) hit back.

Indeed, the management team won the final four games to take the session 9.5-8.5 and seal the title.

A special mention should go to Edrupt, Neil John, James Neve, Griffiths, Ziebart, Wells, Betts, Pacey and Wright who won both of their games on the day.

Management team captain Newell said: “I’d like to thank all for taking part. All games were played in a very competitive, yet friendly, manner and it was a great advert for getting involved in the competitions here at Tydd St Giles golf Club.”
