Step-free access to a Spalding train station platform has been removed until further notice.
The station’s level crossing (otherwise known as barrow crossing) was shut for good on Monday as part of Network Rail safety improvements.
The crossing was designed to enable anybody – but particularly wheelchair users and people with pushchairs – to cross the tracks at ground level.
Station manager East Midlands Trains is asking passengers requiring step-free access to platform two to consider joining the train at Sleaford.
The majority of northbound trains between Peterborough, Spalding and Lincoln will now arrive and depart from platform one.
However, some services will still depart from platform two and will have no step-free access.
These include the 8.33am and 12.41pm services from Peterborough to Lincoln, scheduled to call at Spalding at 8.57am and 1.03pm.
East Midlands Trains said: “If you’re travelling to or from Spalding on any of these services and require step-free access we advise you to organise travel from Sleaford station where possible.
“If you still wish to travel from Spalding station and require step-free access for any of the affected services, please call our Customer Service Centre on 03457 125 678 where alternative transport will be arranged for you.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused during these works.”
Southbound trains between Lincoln, Spalding and Peterborough will continue to use platform one.
