Start the year on a new note with choir

Do you enjoy singing and are looking for a New Year challenge?

South Holland Singers are looking for new members and are inviting anyone who enjoys singing to give the choir a try at an informal rehearsal on Saturday, January 13.
The event, a first for the long-established group, will be led by musical director Sam Graper and aims to demonstrate in a relaxed and friendly setting the many benefits of singing with like-minded people.
Admission to the event, at Spalding Baptist Church Hall in Swan Street, Spalding, from 2pm to 4pm, is free and refreshments will be served.
The audience will be invited to join in or simply listen.
“The idea is to encourage people who enjoy singing but have perhaps felt, for a variety of reasons, that choirs aren’t their ‘thing’, to give it a go,” a spokesman said. “The group is friendly and welcoming. There are no auditions and although an ability to read music is an advantage, it is not a requirement.
“Not only can singing regularly improve your general health, it also reduces stress and improves your social life.”
Members were surveyed recently on why they enjoyed singing with the choir.
Responses included: ‘The choir is very friendly and I enjoy the opportunity to sing many types of music’, ‘Singing gives you a sense of well being and raises your spirits’, ‘Anyone can join and sing even if you can’t read music’ and ‘Singing gets my lungs going and my feet tapping!’
The choir usually meets on Thursday evenings during the autumn and spring terms from 7.30pm to 9pm at the Baptist Church.
