Stanway edges Sutton to top of table

Recognised bowler Barry Stanway made a super contribution with the bat to send Long Sutton top of the table in South Lincs and Border League Championship.
His 78 was pivotal in the five-run home win over Newborough.
Stanway smashed six sixes and as many fours before falling caught and bowled to Joe Mills.
He was last man out as Sutton posted a target of 210.
It was an innings to forget for Sutton number three Dan Oldfield who was on his way back to the pavilion within seconds of arriving at the crease, caught off his first ball.
But a swashbuckling knock from Charlie Crisp with a pair of sixes and three other boundaries on his way to 30 ensured Sutton had something useful to defend.
And that they did.
It was a tight-run affair but Newborough finally fell in the 44th over on 207.
Sutton picked up the maximum 20 points, taking them to the table summit ahead of Woodhall Spa who squeezed home against Moulton Harrox to take 19 points (see page 29).
Long Sutton 2nd had a mammoth 201-run win at Spalding 3rd, whose difficult start to the Division Two season continued.
Town won the toss and asked the visitors to bat.
Sutton gladly accepted the challenge, making 251 for the loss of six wickets in the 45 overs.
And they made light work of removing the hosts for 50 runs.
