Stafford Rangers hand Ebdon first league loss as Spalding United boss

Spalding United were defeated 2-0 at Evo-Stik League First Division South leaders Stafford Rangers on Saturday as Marcus Ebdon lost his unbeaten league record as boss.

First-half goals from Nathan Rooney (17) and Peter Till (25) were enough to see off the Tulips, although Stafford did see Matt Wood sent off for two yellow cards on the stroke of half time.

Ebdon, who had won five and drawn one of his six previous outings as chief, watched on after the break as his charges failed to break down the ten men.

The win sends Stafford 12 points clear at the summit, while Spalding stay in fourth position.

The Tulips will hope to get back to winning ways at Gresley on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

Elsewhere, it was a day filled with postponements due to the heavy rainfall.

That was the case in the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division, with Holbeach United’s date at Kirby Muxloe rained off. That allowed Kempston Rovers to climb up to second, as they saw off Deeping Rangers 2-1.

In the ChromaSport PDFL, Pinchbeck United, Moulton Harrox and Holbeach United Reserves all saw their Premier Division games postponed.

Of the sides in action, Sutton Bridge United enjoyed the best day with a 6-1 Lincs Junior Cup success over Baston.

In Division One, Long Sutton Athletic were beaten 3-0 at Stamford Lions, while Moulton Harrox Reserves drew 2-2 with Warboys Town.
