Staff problems at pool force closures

A grandmother has hit out at the company running Spalding’s swimming pool after her grandchildren were turned away three times due to a “lack of staff”.

For three weeks on the trot, the youngsters were unable to enjoy their Thursday swim in the teaching pool at the Castle Complex because of the issue.

“It’s absolutely dire. My daughter was turned away with the children three times because of staff problems. It’s just not good enough. We don’t have many facilities as it is and the pool is so dated,” said Gill Hornsby, of Peak Hill, Cowbit.

“She has been taking them to Bourne, but we pay council tax here and shouldn’t have to take the children there,” she added, before going on to say neighbouring Norfolk also has much better leisure facilities.

A family friend also went to the Spalding pool earlier this week only to be told she could only use the diving pool for swimming because of staff problems.

“It’s ridiculous that we are still waiting for this to be improved. It was all supposed to be updated,” said Mrs Hornsby who has spoken to South Holland and The Deepings MP John Hayes about the issue.

A spokesman for South Holland District Council said: “We take customer feedback seriously and have listened to comments and concerns raised with us. We actively work with our contract providers 1Life to address any issues.

“We would continue to encourage customers who have any concerns or complaints about the service received to report these directly at reception so that action can be taken swiftly.

“Alternatively, reports can be made by phoning 01775 725978 or emailing [email protected]
