St Nicholas Fayre in Holbeach is a festive hit

Holbeach had a superb Christmas event thanks to hard work by a small committee over just ten weeks.

It seemed like there would be no festive event this year until Jane Francis and a small group of helpers organised the Victorian-themed St Nicholas Fayre, based around All Saints’ Church.

The first meeting was in mid-September and yet last Saturday and Sunday there was a full programme of entertainment laid on across both days, plus stalls and a 12ft history storybook, which pupils from William Stukeley Primary School had worked on.

Students from University Academy Holbeach teamed up with arts group Transported, and Holbeach Town Band played festive tunes.
Charitable organisations are thought to have raised up to £3,000.

Jane said: “It was a huge success and proved it can be done.
“We expected Saturday to be a bit quieter in terms of visitor numbers but as soon as 10am arrived there was a steady stream of people which continued throughout the weekend.”
