Springing into a new season

A giant bee, Easter bunnies and morris dancers could all be found in Spalding town centre at the weekend.

Pete the dinosaur was also out and about making new friends while visitors enjoyed the spring sunshine.

Spring into Spalding also included the town’s version of the Great British Bake Off with 2023 winner Matty Edgell the judge for this year, alongside Sarah Halgarth of the town’s Bookmark store and Jo Mackel, the manager of the host venue South Holland Centre.

The winner was Holly Nag who impressed the judges with her wildlife-themed cake.

The competition was part of the fundraising being carried out by outgoing chair of the district council Andrew Woolf.

A council spokesman said: “There were 22 entries and all were amazing.

“Fantastic that people gave up their time to bake and take it to the SHC and helping to raise funds for Blood Cancer and Mencap.”

The Bourne Borderers morris dancers added their own unique splash of colour for the event.

Members of the Spalding Flower Parade group were on hand to raise funds for their own event while handing out bunches of daffodils.

The event was also graced with a range of Easter bonnets and Broad Street Methodist Church hosted craft events.
