Spriggs of joy for Paul

Heavy overnight rain put a dampener on the fishing at Tydd Gote’s Sunday club match at Main Road as the bream refused to feed in the colder water.

But it was still end peg 35 that came up trumps as Paul Spriggs found a big skimmer and pound plus perch on the feeder and worm.

He topped it up with another good skimmer and silvers from his short pole line to pinkie to put 7lb 10oz on the scales for a narrow victory.

Martin Roper was on peg 23 and fished mainly at six metres with pinkie over groundbait for roach and skimmers and a 6lb 12oz total for second place. Dennis Houghton was third with 5lb 4oz of pinkie caught roach and skimmers from peg 20 and Don Green fourth from 28 with 3lb 14oz of mainly perch.

* Results: Wednesday Open: 1. Sammy McSpadden 34lb 2oz 2. Ian Benton 9lb 11oz 3. Pete Emery 7lb 14oz
Thursday evening: 1. Paul Bawden 6lb 8oz 2. Sammy McSpadden 3. Andy Lawrence 3lb 1oz.
