Sponsorship sought as new ‘world rules’ pool league prepares to launch in Spalding

A new pool league in Spalding is on the lookout for players, teams and sponsorship ahead of its launch.

The Spalding World Rules Pool League will run on Thursday nights and hopes to have at least 16 teams signed up when it finally gets underway.

The main attraction to the new league is that it will adopt world rules, bringing it in line with the national format used by the English Pool Association.

That means that there will be a 60-second shot clock, sanctioned deliberate foul shots and many more changes to the current rules adopted by leagues in South Holland.

Also, the switch in rules will see the champions of the league and top cue entered into the national champion of champions competition at Great Yarmouth.

There is a meeting at The Royal Mail Cart in Spalding on Monday, September 5 (8pm) to discuss the new league.

It is hoped that any interested players, teams and sponsors would like to attend, while the world rules concept will be greater explained to those unaware of the differences to current local leagues.

Anybody who would like to know more about the league can also contact secretary Ashley Burton on 07539 508404 or league chairman Wigs Harrison on 07971 567247.
