Speed checks at villages

Spalding Police have been out to villages in the hope of cutting the numbers of speeding motorists.

The police tweeted last week from Tydd St Mary, with a photo of a PCSO operating a speed gun.

Spalding Inspector Gareth Boxall said speeding is a big issue for the area. “We get lots of complaints about speeding throughout the district,” he said.

“We have to balance resourcing those complaints with all the other demands on our officers.

“The Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership regularly visit the area with a camera van but this is deployed against a specific set of rules and guidelines.”

Insp. Boxall added: “Police officers conducting a ‘speed trap’ is only one way of dealing with speeding; one of the most efficient ways of tackling speeding problems is through the Community SpeedWatch Scheme which a number of parish councils have signed up to and which is due to be expanded later this year.”
