Special bingo for wheelchair fund this Friday

A monthly Spalding bingo night has dedicated its September session to raise money for a teacher’s wheelchair fund.

The regular Monkshouse School bingo session takes place this Friday (September 6) and promises great prizes donated by local businesses.

Every penny through the door will go to a fund to help Priory School teacher Nicole Amott, who has muscular dystrophy and was left in intensive care after the car she was driving husband Lee and two-year-old son Joseph in May was involved in a collision.

While Joseph was unharmed and Lee injured an ankle in the incident, Nicole broke both her legs, suffered a hairline fracture on the knee and had a blood clot.

In the crash, her specially adapted car and the wheelchair that gave her independence has been destroyed.

Co-organiser Carol Modd said of the bingo night: “We want to get as many people as we can to raise as much money.

“A colleague has been round to see businesses and they’ve donated prizes.”
When this month’s cause was announced, the bingo community rallied immediately, Carol said.

“It overwhelmed us, really. As soon as we announced it at the August bingo, everyone has been so generous.”

Carol, who has run the bingo at Monkshouse School for 16 years, said there will also be a raffle at the bingo night.

No expenses or costs will be taken by the organisers, either.

Doors open at 6.45pm and it’ll be eyes down at 7.30pm.

Monkshouse School bingo takes place at the first Friday of every month.
