The red-hot ladies from Spalding Golf Club produced a stunning showing in the fifth round of the Mail on Sunday competition.
Handed a tough home draw against an Elsham ladies’ side that have won three county titles on the spin, Spalding roared to a 5-0 victory at the Surfleet course.
Wins came from Claire Rylott (14 handicap) 2&1, Di Platt (7) 6&5, Lesley Williams (14) 5&3, Matilde Kedzlie (12) 2&1 and Pat West 5&4.
- The Spalding ladies’ B team suffered a 2.15-1.5 home loss against Boston West.
The sole home win came from Sue Dewar and Jean White (4&3, while Ruth Atkins and Paula Brown ended all square. Beaten were Avril Norton and Sue Watson (2 down) and Norma Parker and Anne Ellis (4&3).

- Ladies’ A team fixture: Result – Stoke Rochford 3 Spalding 1 (Pat West & Di Platt won 3&2, Elizabeth Holbrook & Claire Rylott lost 4&3, Lesley Williams & Ruth Atkins lost 2 down, Paula Brown & Anita Cross lost (3&2).
- Spalding Golf Club recently played host to LLCGA’s Spring Bronze Meeting.
Day one saw the ladies play a singles Stableford, with full handicap, for the Gwen Bamber Trophy.
The winner was Cynthia Treharne (Woodhall Spa) on 35 points, with Jacqui Barson (Belton Park) second on 35 points and Olive Tonge (Lincoln) third with 34 points.
Spalding’s Jenny Wilson was fifth, also on 34 points.
On the same day, the ladies also played for the Dorothy Marshal Shield, a competition for the best three Stableford points from a team of four.
The winners, on countback, were Lincoln Golf Club with 94 points.
That saw Spalding’s Sue Dewar, Lynda Double, Maureen Orwell and Jenny Wilson edged into second place.
Day two saw a pairs competition, for the Mary Mundy Salver, with the ladies playing a four ball better ball Stableford in very wet conditions.
Spalding’s Lynda Double and Debra Ward won that with 35 points.
There were 46 competitors and 24 pairs competing over the two days, with the competition standard scratch rising to 75.
After the events, a raffle raised over £170 to help support a Lincolnshire junior attend the Transplant Games in Argentina.
