Spalding woman’s death in crash has left ‘huge gap’ in husband’s life

The husband of an 87-year-old Spalding woman who died following a car crash has described how her death has left a “big hole” in his life.

Vera Ball died in hospital after an accident in Fulbeck, near Sleaford, on Saturday, December 27.

She was a passenger in a Renault Clio being driven by her husband John (84).

She was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, after the car left the road, but her condition deteriorated and Vera died on January 2.

John said: “We were married for 58 years and losing her has left a big hole.

“We moved from Peterborough to Spalding in 2008 and we did everything and went everywhere together. We really did get on very well. We never bothered with our ages and were never old to one another.

“Vera was very well liked, that’s very clear from all the cards I’ve received, and she was always very friendly and popular. Suddenly her not being here has left a huge gap.”

The details of Vera’s funeral are still be to finalised but Mr Ball has asked that for anyone who wishes to to not send flowers but instead make a donation to the Air Ambulance in Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire.
