Spalding United suffer Gresley defeat as Jackson injury forces Holbeach United game to be abandoned

It was a bad night on the road for South Holland duo Spalding United and Holbeach United on Tuesday.

The Tulips were handed a 2-0 Evo-Stik NPL Division One South beaten at Gresley, while Holbeach United were trailing 4-1 at ChromaSport UCL Premier Division side Rothwell Corinthians when a late Nick Jackson injured caused the game to be abandoned.

Starting with Spalding, strikes in either half from Jordan Ball and Gary Rickettes gave the Moatmen the points – and made it back-to-back defeats for Marcus Ebdon’s side.

There was at least one boost for the Tulips, with Ebdon revealing that he’s agreed a deal to sign St Ives Town striker Stuart Eason. He’ll be in the squad against Goole at the Sir Halley on Saturday.

As for Holbeach, Sean Coughlan fired the them ahead early on at Rothwell, only for strikes from Ryan Goodband (21) and Kalon Peniasko (45) gave the hosts a 2-1 half time lead.

Two more Rothwell goals followed before Jackson suffered a suspected torn calf muscle in the 73rd minute.

With the player in serious discomfort, the game was abandoned – and it’s currently unclear if the result will stand or not.

More on both games games to follow.
