Spalding United seal deal for Boston Town’s Kennedy

Spalding United have swooped to sign midfielder Matt Kennedy from UCL Premier Division side Boston Town.

Kennedy, who can play on either flank, will train with the Tulips tonight (Tuesday) and is expected to be included in the squad for Saturday’s FA Trophy trip to Leek Town (3pm).

The move is boss Pat Rayment’s second raid on Boston this month, having also picked up versatile striker Jordan Nuttell a few weeks ago.

The Spalding supremo is thankful to the Poachers for allowing him to complete the transfer and is expecting Kennedy to provide fierce competition for wingers Jamie Thurlbourne and Mitch Griffiths.

He said: “I’m delighted to be able to announce the signing of Matt Kennedy and would like to place on record my thanks to Dan Barrett at Boston Town for allowing us to do the deal.

“Obviously having already signed Jordan, we would usually have had to wait a while to approach another Boston player. But they’ve been different class.

“Matt has bags of ability and I’m really looking forward to having him on board. He’ll offer us a different dimension and will be great competition for Jamie and Mitch.

“All being well, he’ll be in the squad this weekend.”

Rayment is also hoping to complete a deal for a ‘step three’ midfielder later this week, with the Spalding supremo confident of being able to announce the deal before the weekend.

More on that when we have it.
