Spalding United earn impressive FA Cup success at rivals Coalville Town

Spalding United cruised into the third qualifying round of The Emirates FA Cup with a fine 3-0 victory at Evo-Stik League First Division South rivals Coalville Town on Saturday.

An own goal by Dean Freeman, Nialle Rodney’s overhead kick and a late Josh Moreman penalty fired the Tulips to a victory that will bank them £4,500 in FA prize money.

Pat Rayment’s side will now hope for a money-spinning tie when the draw is made on Monday. It’s the first time the Tulips have reached this stage in 11 years.

Also in the hat for the next round are Holbeach United, after their remarkable 1-1 draw with Worcester City. Click here for the full report from that game.

In the ChromaSport Peterborough League, Moulton Harrox continued their flawless start with a 5-1 win over AFC Stanground at Broad Lane. Adam Abell, Ben Allen, Ian Bradbury, skipper Billy King and sub Martin Sandall got the goals as Dave Panton’s side made it seven wins from as many games.

Harrox are now two points clear at the top, with a game in hand, after Holbeach United Reserves held previous leaders Peterborough Sports Reserves to a 2-2 draw.

Pinchbeck United are also up into the top six after a 2-0 win over Ketton. Top scorer Tony Edwards was again among the goals as Ian Dunn’s side kept their fine run going at Knight Street.

Meanwhile, Crowland Town lost a nine-goal Snowden Field thriller 5-4 against Thorney.

Down in Division One, Spalding United Reserves won their derby at in-form Sutton Bridge United 4-2.

There was also a 2-1 win for Moulton Harrox Reserves at Kings Cliffe, but Long Sutton Athletic lost 2-1 at home to Warboys Town.
