Spalding United have agreed terms to sign former Peterborough United midfielder Lee Clarke.
The former Northern Ireland under-21 international, who has turned out for UCL Premier Division high-fliers Yaxley in recent weeks, is expected to sign forms after training tomorrow night (Thursday).
Clarke was the number one target for Spalding supremo Pat Rayment over the summer, but opted for a switch back to higher-graded former side St Albans City instead.
It now seems that Rayment has finally got his man, with the player who captained Welling to the Conference South title in 2012/13 expected to go straight into the squad for Saturday’s Evo-Stik League First Division South clash at Market Drayton Town (3pm).
Rayment said: “I’m delighted to announce that we’ve agreed terms with Lee Clarke. Hopefully we’ll get all of the paperwork sorted after training on Thursday.
“I don’t want to say too much yet as it’s not finalised, but I think his pedigree speaks for itself.
“Lee was our number one target over the close season and I never stopped wanting to bring him to the football club.
“It’s going to be a long, hard end second half of the season and I feel that he’ll bring an awful lot to the table.”
