Spalding Tri’s Aimee pushes through pain barrier

Spalding Triathlon Club’s Aimee Stocker is hopeful of securing qualification for the 2015 European Championships and the 2014 World Championships after a strong showing at the Rother Valley Sprint Triathlon.

The qualification race consisted of 750m open water swim, 25.4k cycle ride and 5k run to finish.

Spalding ace Stocker has been suffering with a long-term back injury, which is affecting all disciplines but is making swimming extremely painful.

However, after losing a bit of ground on the swim she roared back to achieve the fastest overall female bike split of the day.

Stocker then had a strong run of 1.29.07hrs, but she picked up a time penalty which knocked her out of the automatic qualification places for the World Championships – and will have to wait for a few weeks find out if she has qualified.

  • Spalding Tri and Spalding Cycling Club members Nikki Balding, Mick Griffin and Steve Reeves came together to complete the daunting 110-mile ‘Flat Out in The Fens’ event.

The trio completed the cycle ride in 6.35hrs – which was a fabulous time with an average speed of 18.5 miles per hour and half hour of stops.
That represented a whopping improvement of 1.30hrs on Balding and Griffin’s time from last year.
