Leanne Wakefield reached the last 16 of the ladies’ national singles pool championship at Yarmouth last Thursday night.
The Spalding and District Snooker League player, who is a member of Bourne Snooker Centre, was only beaten by current England player Lyndsey Roberts.
From a starting line-up of 256 players, Wakefield won through four rounds (5-0, 5-3, 5-0 and 5-1) before finally coming unstuck.
Wakefield was then back in action at 9am the following day, as she was part of a seven-player Lincolnshire ladies’ team squaring off against other county teams.
In a round robin group of six teams, they emerged as runners-up and progressed through to the last 16 knockout stage, which was to be played the following day.
Here they lost to Nottinghamshire ladies, who went on to make the final.
With time for a quick break, Wakefield was then straight back onto the table in the ladies’ champion of champions competition, which she had qualified for locally earlier in the year.
A high-quality field of 56 players contested this event, with Wakefield progressing well with wins of 5-2 and 5-4.
Having played on and off for more than 16 hours, the quarter-finals and onwards were suspended until later in the day (her last game finished at 1.30am).
Wakefield eventually lost 5-4 to England international Sharon James, having led the match 4-1.
- Friday also saw Lincolnshire’s Lewis Roberts in action in the men’s champion of champions singles.
He reached the semi-finals in the 82-player competition, but was finally beaten 6-3 by former world champion John Roe.
- Roberts returned on Saturday for the champion of champions team competition.
He was playing for the Sportsman Cuemakers from Boston alongside other local league players Scott Anderson, Shane Balding, Gary Willis, Alan Mason, Neil Davey, Jason Bates and Chris Back.
They reached the final, but lost 8-4 to a team from Staffordshire.
